KinScan — Privacy Policy

KinScan ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when you use the KinScan mobile application ("App").

1. Information We Collect

a) Photos

Photos you voluntarily select or upload for face similarity analysis. Depending on the feature, this may be a single pair of photos (Individual), three photos (Family), or up to seven photos in one Extended Family scan (one baby and up to six family members).
Photos are securely transmitted to Luxand.cloud solely for processing.
Original photos are deleted immediately after analysis.
Luxand may generate irreversible neural network templates that cannot be used to reconstruct the original images.

Extended Family Scan — Data Handling

When you use the Extended Family feature:

Family Photos: Each photo (the baby and each family member) is sent individually to Luxand.cloud for face detection and similarity comparison, exactly like our other comparison features, and is deleted immediately after analysis.
Relationship Tags: Labels you assign (e.g., Mom, Grandma, Uncle) exist only in the app's memory during your session. They are never transmitted with your photos and are discarded when the scan is reset or the app is closed.
Feature Breakdown: If you run the optional feature breakdown, facial landmark data is retrieved from Luxand.cloud for each photo. Landmark data is held in the app's memory only for the duration of your session to avoid repeat processing, and is never stored on any server by us.
Results: Leaderboard results and feature comparisons are displayed on your device only and are not uploaded anywhere. Share cards you generate contain names/labels and scores but never the photos themselves.
Age Checks: Estimated age information returned by Luxand during face detection is used on-device solely to warn you about mismatched photos (for example, a child's photo tagged as a parent). It is not stored.

b) App Usage and Diagnostics

App interactions (e.g., feature usage)
Crash logs and performance diagnostics
Error and stability metrics

c) Device and Advertising Information

Advertising ID (AAID) and related device identifiers used by Google AdMob
Ad impressions, clicks, and engagement data

Baby Prediction Feature — Data Handling

When you use the Baby Prediction feature (where available):

Parent Photos: Temporarily uploaded to Firebase Storage for API processing
Generated Baby Images: Stored locally on your device only
Usage Flag: Whether you've used the feature before (for first-time pricing — stored locally)
Credit Transactions: Record of credits spent on baby generation

Parent photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage (temporary, encrypted)
Firebase URLs are sent to MaxStudio AI API for baby generation
Generated baby image is returned and saved to your device
Parent photos are automatically deleted from Firebase (lifecycle rule: 7 days max)
We do NOT store photos on our servers permanently
We do NOT analyze or train AI models on your photos
We do NOT share your photos with anyone except the processing API

⚠️ Important: Generated baby images are stored ONLY on your device. We cannot access, view, or recover them. Back them up if you want to keep them!

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

Name, email address, phone number
Location data
Financial or payment information
Contacts, messages, calendar data
Audio recordings or background media
Health or biometric identifiers beyond photo-based similarity

3. How We Use Information

To perform face similarity analysis
To improve app performance and stability
To serve ads via Google AdMob for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention

4. Third-Party Services

Luxand.cloud — for face similarity processing. Luxand processes images in accordance with its own privacy policy: luxand.com/privacy.php
MaxStudio AI — processes baby generation requests using AI (where the feature is available)
Firebase Storage — temporary image hosting during baby generation processing (auto-deleted)
Google AdMob — for advertising and analytics. Google's data practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

These services process data in accordance with their respective privacy policies and applicable laws.

5. Data Retention

Original photos are deleted immediately after processing
Any derived templates stored by Luxand are irreversible and non-reusable outside recognition
Diagnostic and advertising data is retained per Google's standard policies

7. Children's Privacy

KinScan is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Features such as Family comparison and the Extended Family scan involve photos of babies and children submitted by adult users. By uploading a child's photo you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, or have the parent's or guardian's permission. Children's photos are processed identically to all other photos: transmitted securely for analysis, deleted immediately after processing, and never stored on our servers.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the app and on this page.
